Granville is a major junction suburb where the Main West and Carlingford lines meet, and it has been a working residential and light industrial area for well over a century.
North of the railway the housing is mostly freestanding brick homes on regular blocks, many of them post-war. Closer to the station and along Parramatta Road, apartment development has been substantial and continues.
